Conflict Kitchen, Pittsburgh, US
This colourful restaurant served food from countries that the US was in conflict with. Each cuisine on offer is supplemented with performances, events and discussions with the aim of educating the public about the culture, politics, and issues at stake within the region in the focus. The exterior of the kitchen featured colourful restaurant wallpaper in the theme of whichever region it promoted.
Barbie Cafe, Taipei, Taiwan
The capital of themed restaurants, Taiwan, is home to Barbie Cafe. The first officially licensed Barbie cafe in the world definitely lives up to expectations. The waitresses all wear Barbie uniforms, massive portraits of Barbie hang on the glittery, pink restaurant wallpaper, mini Barbie figurines sit along the countertop, there’s even a pink handbag-shaped sofa in the lobby.
Jaguar Shoes Restaurant, London
Created as part of an exhibition by Jaguar Shoes, this colourful venue features custom made restaurant wallpaper to reflect the jungle theme of the space. Carnovsky, the creators of the design, picked up an award for the tropical forest-inspired wallpapers that change to reveal hidden animals in the undergrowth when a red filter is over the light source.
Pixelart Restaurant, Moscow
Interior and UX designer Elena Kartseva created this restaurant concept with custom designed pixelart restaurant wallpaper. The concept was inspired by popular video games like Super Mario, where the lines between 2D and 3D space are blurred.
Dyanon Bistro, Ecuador
This Ecuadorian Bistro designed by Jannina Cabal features a stunning sculptural wall covered in an array of white kitchen utensils and crockery. The impressive large feature wall sits next to a floor-to-ceiling window, so it doesn’t make the room feel crowded.
Bar Luce, Milan
Designed by legedary director Wes Anderson, Bar Luce embodies the Anderson’s sugnature quirky aesthetic. Arched ceilings, formica furniture and 1950s-esque interior elements such as the green restaurant wallpaper pictured, combine in one whimsical iconic design.
Saltz, Zurich
