We had the opportunity to sit down with creative & designer Lily Sawyer to discuss her new wallpaper collaboration with Feathr: the Bocage Collection. As Creative Director of the Bocage Collection, Lily brought her unique approach to mixing modern and vintage styles. During the Q&A, Lily shared her insights into her creative process and the inspiration behind this beautiful new floral and striped wallpaper collection.
Q: Can you tell us a little about yourself and your background?
Lily Sawyer: I’ve always loved experimenting creatively. I went to art college and earned both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Fine Art Painting, which was a very exploratory time for me. Later, I transitioned into teaching art, but eventually left that role to start a family. Photography became my next passion, which led me into the world of interiors through Instagram. My platform, Layered.Home, started as a personal journey and has grown into a full-blown creative outlet for my design work.
Q: How would you describe your interior design style?
Lily: My style is a mix of modern and vintage—eclectic and experimental, but always carefully considered. I love combining florals with geometric patterns and adding splashes of color, particularly pastels. My approach to design has evolved over time, and now I’m confident in blending seemingly opposing styles into something that feels both bold and harmonious.
Q: What inspired the Bocage Wallpaper Collection?
Lily: William Morris, one of my all-time favorite designers, has always been a huge influence. I’ve had his wallpapers in my home for years, but eventually I wanted something that reflected my own personal style more closely. The Bocage Collection is inspired by Morris’s traditional designs, but with my own twist. The floral elements aren’t mirror images—they have subtle variations that make the design feel unique and organic. There’s a bit of vintage charm, but also a contemporary edge. It’s cleaner, fresher, and more carefree, which captures the essence of my creative process.
Q: We heard you wrote a poem inspired by the collection. Can you share it?
Lily: Yes! Here’s a short ode I wrote about Bocage:
Floral lover
Of classic blooms
With a touch of wild
Splashes of color
A modern edge
A hint of bold
A touch of vintage
Cleaner
Fresher
Rather than dated
A bit rambling
A bit wild
Calm
Considered
Carefree
Q: What kinds of spaces do you think the Bocage Collection would work well in?
Lily: The floral and striped wallpaper collection is incredibly versatile. It can cover an entire room for a romantic, cozy feel, or it can be used on a feature wall or in a small nook for a more playful accent. Personally, I’ve used the Bocage Meadow as my living room wallpaper because its classic color palette really stands the test of time. Bocage Teal is my kitchen wallpaper, where it complements my pink Smeg fridge, and Bocage Stripe is my hallway wallpaper for a fresh take on a traditional look. My daughter’s bedroom has Bocage Blue, which gives it a cozy, cocooning atmosphere.
Q: What tips would you give to someone looking to incorporate wallpaper into their home?
Lily: First, don’t be afraid to add color! Start with smaller spaces if you’re nervous, but you’ll be amazed at how much life wallpaper can bring to a room. Second, choose colors that truly resonate with you—don’t just follow trends. If it sparks joy in you, that’s what matters.
I also recommend investing in quality wallpaper. Cheaper alternatives may seem tempting, but they often lead to frustration with installation and durability. A high-quality paper is much easier to work with and gives a better overall finish. Finally, don’t be afraid to experiment. Mix patterns and textures that might not seem to go together at first glance—you might be surprised by the results!
Q: What does this collaboration with Feathr mean to you?
Lily: It’s been a dream! Feathr’s focus on collaborating with artists and pushing the boundaries of wallpaper design aligns perfectly with my creative philosophy. I’m thrilled to see the Bocage Collection come to life and be part of homes around the world. It’s a celebration of art, joy, and individuality—exactly what I aim for in my designs.
