One of our favourite finds on our trip to Kiev was the studio of creative polymath, Sergey Mahkno. Having built a fearsome reputation as an architect – arguably the leading exponent of modern architecture in Ukraine – he has more recently devoted his time to sculpture, product design and art. His studio is pictured below.
His architectural style, like much in Ukraine, mixes a minimalist European aesthetic with rich, textural organic materials and Asian influences. The end result are projects that we find to be beautiful, liveable and full of restrained luxury, such as this modern home, “Jack’s House”.
We visited his gallery and met with two his ace team, to introduce them to FEATHR wallpapers.
Sergey is a craftsman, as at home with ceramics and carpentry as he is as designed at an iMac. We spotted so much to love in his gallery, much of crafted by Sergey himself.
This oversized white wooden rocking chair is an elegant take on classic Danish design.
The book table, designed for reading, was another of our favourite pieces of modern design from Sergey.
Massive hanging lightshades, made of beaten copper with a teal finish are the dramatic centrepieces of his studio.

Commissioned for the Vernadasky National Library of Ukraine, this reading chair was a personal favourite of our founder Tom Puukko. We thought it’d look stunning upholstered in Reeta Ek’s English Rose fabric (Midnight in Velvet), so watch this space.
