We started FEATHR to bring together the best of modern artists and wallpaper – and so create more original art for your home. We’re honoured to work with all of our talented artists, but here are five with particularly interesting stories to tell – along with the modern designer wallpapers they’ve created for us.
44flavours – modern graffiti collective
Berlin-based 44flavours started life as a graffiti collective, before morphing into a multi-faceted design studio – their style still retains the urgency of street art.
44flavours created our modern designer wallpaper, Psychedelic Pathways. In the hand-drawn design you can see influences from cartographic maps, graffiti and vintage wallpapers.
Liam Spakes – modern tattoo artist
Liam has a global reputation for his tattoos – his art is found on hipsters and celebrities in LA, New York, London and beyond. His absurd and brutalist style recalls the back street tattooists of the early 20th century, catering to sailors and liggers at the edge of society.
Liam created our modern designer wallpapers, Tattoo Flash 01 and Tattoo Flash 02. These pieces are the first time his art has been applied to interior design.
Russell Marshall – modern pop artist
Marshall’s previous lives include working as a newspaper designer, journalist and art director. His art pulls on all of these influences, delving into celebrity emphemera and using unexpected juxtapositions to tell new stories.
Russell Marshall created our modern designer wallpaper, Marshall 01. The piece was created with shots of Elvis Presley’s Colt Python pistols and the cheque Elvis cashed to pay for them.
Supermundane – a modern graphic genius
Supermundane (aka Rob Lowe) is known globally for his distinctive graphic style. Experimenting with pure line and colour, Supermundane has created a style that both looks to the future and references past art movements such as Art Deco and the Memphis Group. As well as creating public works, designing innovative zines such as Anorak, he also works for bodies such as London’s V&A gallery.
Supermundane created our modern designer wallpaper, Super Abstract. A classic adaptation of his famed geometric style, with colourways ranging from the subtle to the pop.
Luke Evans – modern art photographer
Luke Evans is building a reputation as the enfant terrible of photography, with his experimental approach to his work. He first became known for a project that involved eating and digesting 35mm film, then scanning the results to create surreal abstract works. His work now spans photography, installation, film, and sculpture. He’s been exhibited internationally, with a future exhibition at the Saatchi Gallery this year.
Luke created our modern designer wallpaper, Neural. Using a hi-res microscope, he shot slices of cow brain and then treated them to create this unique marbled finish.
